canufathomit While sighting-in my brand-new flintlock rifle I chose to use T/C's Copper Bore Brush and Bore Mop between every shot to ensure exact bore conditions for each fired round. I began with a clean unused bore, fired one shot, and then inserted the "Bronze Bore Brush." The brush stuck at or near the breach and would not budge when I attempted to pull it toward the muzzle. I applied some torque to the attached ramrod and "click," the brush assembly separated between the bristle column and the threaded base.

At the time of this writing, the gun is at the gun-smith's shop. The gun-smith will most likely need to remove the breach plug in order to remove the broken brush end. Whatever the needed procedure, this faulty brush has cost me at least a week of hunting, and perhaps the rest of the Traditional Pennsylvania Flintlock Deer Season.

I cannot fully express my frustration and disappointment. All of December found me looking forward to the flintlock hunting season. I can only hope the brush failure was an anomaly; however, I suspect that quality control has slipped for Thompson Center Arms. I believe the bristle length was too long for the bore diameter creating increased friction with the bore's surface. This friction, and resulting resistance to removal, caused the brush to separate where the bristle base wire meets the brush base. The brush assembly simply could not endure the torque necessary to remove it from the once-fired bore without breaking.

I'm afraid to buy another brush. Further, the cost this failed little accessory added to my traditional hunting outlay is likely to be more than one-hundred dollars. The repair time may well cancel the remainder of my opportunities at hunting a white-tailed deer this season.

cdc This kit has pretty much all you need, at least for the range and field. I carry all of these in my possibles bag while in the field. You never know when you might need something.

Bowhunter75 These cleaning accessories will get you started in the cleaning process. I also suggest the Thompson Range Rod. Good value for the combination of items.
