Kristi I asked for this jacket for Christmas this year - I didn't try it on in the store, however I read all of the reviews online and picked out a size and color to relay to my husband based on the reviews. The reviews turned out to be pretty helpful because the jacket is not only super warm but it also fits perfect (which is quite the accomplishment for me b/c I am tall!). And did I mention that it's also really cute?!

FIT

I am 5'10 and 140lbs - size small fits me perfectly. I typically wear a small in jackets so I guess you could say it fits true to size. The jacket length comes to about mid thigh on me and the sleeves are miraculously long enough. I have room for layering, however this jacket is pretty darn toasty so I'm not sure that I'd wear a thick sweater underneath it unless I was planning to hang out outside in frigid temps. I love how it cinches in the back to give the coat more of a tailored fit - most flattering heavy winter coat I've ever owned.

COLOR

I asked for the Moonlight Ivory color and I love it. It's definitely more white than what I consider ivory - either way, very pretty. Probably will get dirty pretty easy since it's white but the material is pretty durable - seems like dirt would wipe right off. Haven't tried it yet though :)

WARMTH

So warm! It's been pretty warm here in Denver this winter so I haven't warn it much during the daytime yet, but I have been wearing it at night when I walk my dog (30 degrees-ish). All body parts that are covered by the coat are extremely warm - and that's without layers underneath - just a long sleeved t-shirt. Love it!

I recommend this coat! If you're taller than 5'10... not sure the sleeves would be long enough. They are JUST long enough for my arms.

kellyk This coat is the best $300 I've ever spent. At first, I was hesitant to spend the money, but every day that I walk into work, I'm very happy with my purchase. Last year, I wore a black pea coat with a black fleece and a sweater/sweatshirt under it and I pretty much froze to death every day. Not to mention the fact that the wool of my old coat would constantly be covered in dog hair no matter how hard I tried to clean it. I bought this North Face coat in white and, unlike what a previous commenter suspected, there is no evidence that I have a dog on this coat.

I've received many compliments on my coat, both for looks ("ooh, cute coat") and how others wish they had a coat that warm. I can wear a t-shirt under this coat and I'll still be warm walking my 15-minute trek into my office from my car. I also really like that the front pockets are deep (good for holding keys, phone, etc.) and the slits are vertical, which makes it easier to put my hands in them. In this coat, in addition to my winter boots, the only part of my body really exposed to the elements is my knees. I'm so thankful to not have a numb butt or thighs anymore.

When I purchased this coat, a friend and I went shopping together and we both liked it so much, we both got one, just different colors. We've had many conversations about how this coat is the best clothing purchase we've ever made. The hood is so warm I don't need to wear a hat and mess up my hair and the coat zips up high enough that I haven't needed a scarf. The coat is also really easy to clean, which is great, because I was worried that a white coat would get dingy fast. Granted, it does get dirty (I sometimes accidentally lean on my car while cleaning it), but it's a quick clean and I don't have to take it in to a dry cleaner. I'm beyond content with my purchase and though I spent a lot of money, every day I'm not frozen and miserable, it pays for itself.

lindsayloo I've wanted this jacket for a couple years. I couldn't even find last year's style in retail stores come January 1st because it's so popular. The older styles I've tried on have fit small, but this style fits true to size. I'm 5'2" 110lbs (34-28-34) and the small has enough room for layering, while still looking fitted. I could probably go down to an xs, but the sleeves of the small fit perfect and a bulky sweater will fill it in. I find the hand-warmer pockets are a little too low for optimal comfort. The jacket hits at the knee on me because I'm petite. If there were petite sizing I would prefer that because I think the jacket is more flattering when it ends a couple inches above the knee.

I love the warmth and waterproofing, and how TNF designs their jacket hoods with detachable fur. I love that the fur can flip forward and surround the face - great for those extremely cold windy days - it provides great face protection. I wanted something for those extremely cold days when I'm commuting or walking the dogs in all weather, and this definitely does the trick. I also think this year's style is more flattering in terms of the chest pocket design. The flap over the zipper is a nice addition too (over previous styles) for added storm/wind protection. As with other reviewers from past years, I agree that the zipper is a little troublesome. However I think this is typical of two-way zippers, out of experience with other jackets. You really have to make sure the zippers are lined up.

Overall I think this is great value. My quibbles are nitpicky and mostly relate to my petite frame.

darimini This is a great coat and keeps you super warm! I disagree with the recommendation that you order a size up... I am usually somewhere between an S and XS, and I ordered both. The Small was huge and bulky, but the XS was perfect and I love it. I will say that, for me, the XS (which is the only size that looks right) doesn't really allow room for a bulky sweater, but I live in New York and this coat is warm enough that I can't see needing a thick layer underneath... a shirt and thin sweater is more than adequate. At this point, I've worn it to icy cold, windy early mornings at the park with my dog.

I did notice the same thing another reviewer said -- that the underarms pinch a little -- but within a day of wearing it, that feeling went away. Maybe it conforms a little to your body? In any case, everyone's body is different (I have disproportionately thin arms for my frame), so it might be smart to order two sizes and check it out for yourself.

coldmngirl This coat is really warm! I live in Minneapolis, MN so I know cold. I walk to work, which is about a mile away from my house so needed a coat that would keep me warm on my walk - this coat fits the bill! When I walked to work the other day to was -5 and my knees were the only cold part of my body. The hood is down lined and keeps your head really warm as well. This is one of the warmest coats I've owned- definitely works in really cold climates.

M12345 I was deciding between the Metropolis Parka and the Arctic Parka........after much thought I decided on this one. I chose this one because it is the WARMEST coat ever! I've worn it in 10 degree weather and it is fabulous. I have also gotten several compliments on it from other gals which is a surprise to me because winter coats aren't the most flattering! I had a tough time with the zipper at first, but now it's fine. I love that the fur is removeable as well.

prairiegirl After doing some research on finding the best warm parka, I decided on the Arctic parka. I tried on the Metropolis, but the lines were too straight for my curvy body. I'm 5'5!/2", and about 144 lbs, I got the medium in brown (lovely chocolatey color woudl normally go for the black but it seemed like more lint was attracted to this color even the material felt slightly different from the other colors( the large was too sloppy looking on me) and I love this parka!! I finally feel like I got my money's worth in feeling insulated, toasty warm and feeling trendy at the same time. Love the deep pockets, snaps that close easily with an overlay of material, zippered hood, so that air doesnt blow down your neck, and it reaches my knees which is plenty long enough for me, best practical purchase this winter and I live in Winnipeg better known as "Winterpeg". The only thing that could have been better quality is the fur on the hood, looks kind of cheap but other than that I appreciate the coat for the overall satisfaction I feel when I wear it. Love the fact that is 100 % goose down, not duck down and just feel really good when I wear it as I watch others freezing at the bus stop. Even starting to love the hood!!! Which is also down filled!!!

paradoxia I am very happy with this jacket. I think it worse every penny i spent. The material is nice and the design is perfect. It's not too long or too short just up to the knees. Very comfortable and very warm, not heavy. I like the design of the hood a lot. You can play with it. You can cover your ears only or you can unzip the fur if it rains. I love it.

HelenV I love, love, love this coat! It keeps me so warm I don't ever mind going outside in the morning to warm-up my car! I am very petite on top, i wear all XS and sometimes their too big, however I'm very curvy on the bottom. After looking at the measurement chart, it suggested that I get a medium. I am so glad I trusted my gut and got a small! It fits like a glove. I'm 5' and 120lbs and a small is perfect for me, perhaps because it runs a little bigger than the measurements it was able to fit my large hips and butt. It comes past the butt and to about mid thigh. It's very figure flattering and feminine, although it's so warm it's light and not bulky at all! I'd recommend it for anyone who wants a warm coat with a feminine shape.
